Plans are under way for the establishment of a Pan-African Security Sector Capacity Building Network for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
The growing need for CSOs to strengthen their interventions to secure peace in Africa has been expressed, and, this need will be addressed. The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in collaboration with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) will be organizing a preparatory meeting on the establishment of a security sector capacity building network for CSOs in sub-Saharan Africa.
This meeting will be held at the WACSI secretariat in Accra, Ghana, from Thursday February 23 to Friday February 24, 2012. It will bring together twenty (20) civil society actors from across the continent; Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe,Malawi, Liberia, Togo, Cameroon, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo who work in the areas of conflict, peace and security in Africa.

The meeting will serve as a platform for the creation of a Pan-African Capacity Building Network of CSOs that will collaborate to achieve increased and improved security governance in Africa; a novelty in the continent! Through group discussions, presentations and experience sharing sessions, the 2 day meeting will enable participants to review results of a survey related to CSO’s demand for the network, to consult, and to get the input of more African CSOs on proposals for the network.
The Institute has a resource centre that is open to civil society actors in the region. It serves as a library of civil society documents, research reports and edited volumes that are accessible to both individuals and organisations. The Institute has partnered the Foundation Centre to provide online learning resources and a database of grant giving institutions in the United States of America.
