The overall objective of the consultative meeting was to provide a platform for civil society in Liberia and the national legislature to forge a more constructive, interdependent and mutually beneficial relationship. The key objectives of this meeting were to:§ Further analyse the current relationship between civil society and the National Legislature; identifying successes and challenges;§ Provide a platform for civil society actors and members of the National Legislature to jointly reflect on possibilities to enhance interaction, and collaboration;§ Explore the modalities for establishing a structured mechanism for civil society and the legislature to collaborate; and§ Establish a working group or group of experts that would document collaboration or interaction between CSO and the Legislature.
This consultation was part of a regional project conceptualised by WACSI and WACSOF titled “West Africa Civil Society Legislative/Parliamentary Forum” which aims to improve responsive governance processes in the sub region. The pilot countries for the project are Liberia, Senegal and Nigeria
