Since July 2007, the Institute has trained over 200 civil society actors from 14 countries. The Institute adopted an incremental approach to training and capacity building. In the first year cycle WACSI introduced foundational courses on Corporate Governance, NGO Management and Research Methodology to raise awareness of the Institute and to begin a process of designing delivery mechanisms.
Through these initial 4 courses, WACSI has gauged the demand of CSOs, their needs and expertise in the region. Also, the 3 courses have enabled the Institute strengthen the course delivery process with feedback from participants through well-designed course evaluation methods. The courses also revealed the high demand for WACSI’s capacity building services. To date, over 500 organisations applied to partake in the Institute’s courses.
From 2009, WACSI will offer eleven courses as part of its training and capacity schedule
The Institute has a resource centre that is open to civil society actors in the region. It serves as a library of civil society documents, research reports and edited volumes that are accessible to both individuals and organisations. The Institute has partnered the Foundation Centre to provide online learning resources and a database of grant giving institutions in the United States of America.
