Promoting Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions as Enablers for Inclusive Sustainable Development in West Africa

Sustainable Development Goal  (SDG) 16 is foundational to achieving all the other SDGs. This article analyses how this can be achieved, creating a domino effect of other SDG achievements.

"Adopted in September 2015, as a replacementfor the Millennium Development Goal (MDGs), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are envisioned as a continuation of the MDGs with a more comprehensive and holistic approach to “end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all”1. The development agenda sets out 17 ambitious goals with key targets and indicators that will serve as guidelines for the accomplishment of the goals. Goal 16 focuses on peace, justice and strong institutions and is aimed at: a) promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development;b) providing access to justice for all; and c) building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels."
