Vacancy Announcement Project Officer: Immunisation Advocacy Initiative
WACSI in collaboration with its partners is currently implementing the Immunisation Advocacy Initiative which is focused on advocacy for domestic financing of immunisation in Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire and Kenya. The initiative is a 3-year programme and seeks to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) to lead on national advocacy efforts for increased allocation of resources towards immunisation—specifically in children from 5-years and below.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Head of Policy Influencing and Advocacy, the Project Officer will support the technical management and smooth implementation of the Immunisation Advocacy Initiative project. The primary role of the Project Officer will be focused on supporting the Policy Influencing and Advocacy unit’s portfolio in the areas of health, advocacy and capacity building. This will include supporting the design of project activities, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. In addition, the Officer will support financial and administrative management of the project.
Planning and monitoring: S/he wil
-Contribute to the design and implementation of project related activities;
-Participate in the drafting of work plans, budgets, disbursement, procurement, recruitment and monitoring framework
-Assist in the day-to-day monitoring and evaluation of the project work plans, including end of project assessments and post-project evaluation studies;
-Support coordination of capacity development programmes related to the project;
-Report on project implementation processes, including follow-up on queries and issues identified, summarising reports from Ghana, Kenya and Cote D’Ivoire, providing data for narrative and financial reports;
-Provide support to the development and maintenance of a regional database of key project outcomes.
Operations Management: S/he will
-Provide administration and coordination support to the Immunisation Advocacy Initiative team
-Assist the Head of Policy Influencing and Advocacy unit in managing the project’s finances, human resources, assets, procurement, logistics and administrative matters;
-Ensure effective use of resources and compliance with WACSI rules and procedures as well as with donor or fund requirements;
-Support and facilitate logistical arrangement including travelling plans, conferencing, reporting for project activities
-Support briefings and trainings for project beneficiaries on applicable rules, procedures, good practices and the use of standard formats and systems.
Knowledge Exchange and Information Management:
-Provides regular updates and reports on progress in areas of responsibility;
-Collate international and national statistics and reports on Immunisation;
-Keep the project team up-to-date with relevant information on Immunisation issues across the 3 countries;
-Keep project team informed about project activities, timelines, deadlines and expected deliverables
-Carry out any other tasks related to the project as agreed with the project supervisor and/or the Executive director
Qualifications and Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field with an in-depth understanding of immunisation sector. (A Master’s degree will be an added advantage);
-Must have at least 5-year’s working experience in managing development project within civil society sector;
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to write reports;
-Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work independently, handle a variety of concurrent activities, rank priorities, organize work efficiently, and deliver assignments in a timely manner often under time constraints;
-Computer literate – good in excel, word, PowerPoint and spread sheet;
-Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills;
-Ability to take initiative with good team work skills;
-Ability to meet deadlines and achieve targets;
-Must be perfectly bilingual--fluent in English and French;
-Must be willing to travel, sometime on short notice;
