The e-directory is a primary source of information to CSOs and their stakeholders, and would be regularly updated. Its accessibility and versatility should be exploited to galvanize and strengthen Civil Society in Ghana.
The launch of the civil society organizations (CSOs) e-directory for Ghana was a remarkable event in which stakeholders lauded the efforts of civil society in the country. “It took the support and collaboration of civil society groups, institutions, associations and platforms across the entire span of the country to make this take off possible” noted Nana A. Afadzinu, Executive Director of WACSI at the launch.
The launch took place on Tuesday September 20, 2011at the residence of the Ambassador of France in Accra, Ghana. Present at the event were representatives from the Embassy of France in Ghana, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, Ghana.
The web portal based e-directory maps out CSOs working at different levels in the country and provides information on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) based on regional location and areas of specialization.
The Civil Society directory website is designed to facilitate timely access to a comprehensive range of information on organizations and institutions relevant to the Ghanaian Civil Society community. This innovation would stimulate greater collaboration and enhance partnership among CSOs in Ghana.
“The website will help the program (UNDP) to identify and work with civil society organizations that are credible” notes Mr. Kamil Kayode Kamaluddeen, Country Director of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ghana. “It will reduce the bureaucratic bottlenecks associated with retrieving information on CSOs from the department’s database” remarked Mr. Harrison Tetteh-Donkor, Head of the Research Unit at the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare.
The Ambassador of France to Ghana, Mr. Pierre Jacquemot remarked that the Ghana CSO e-directory is a property of Ghanaian CSOs and should be used exhaustively in their interest.
The e-directory is a primary source of information to CSOs and their stakeholders, and would be regularly updated. Its accessibility and versatility should be exploited to galvanize and strengthen Civil Society in Ghana.
