The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in collaboration with the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative, of the Open Society Institute (LGI-OSI) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) organised a 5-day training workshop in Policy Engagement and Advocacy in Dakar, Senegal from 15 - 19 March, 2010.
The 5-day training aims to develop the capacity of civil society actors in West Africa to more effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders in an attempt to influence the policy-making processes of regional governments. By providing knowledge and skills in the production of evidence-based policy papers and in the planning of policy advocacy campaigns, the training seeks to provide the tool to help CSOs to hold governments accountable and also to push for their own agendas. The training is expected to contribute towards enhancing the role of civil society as an indispensable partner in the promotion of good governance, democracy, peacebuilding and participatory development processes.
