As part of its strategic mandate, the West Africa Civil Society Institute supported by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa organised a 3-day specialised training workshop on “Project Proposal Formulation and Grants Management” for civil society actors in Ghana from 15 - 17 September, 2010. The overarching goal of this course was to enhance the ability of trainees to write winning proposals to solicit funds from international donors and, to manage and control program and project funds effectively.
This evaluation report provides qualitative and quantitative information of participants’ perception and appreciation of the training. The analysis captures their individual levels of appreciation as well as their opinions on the overall delivery of the training.
The Local Government and Public Service Reform initiative of the Open Society Institute (LGI-OSI), the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), formed a tripartite to enhance the capacities of West African civil society actors on policy advocacy and engagement on 26th - 30th March, 2010 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
This workshop is among the series of workshops on the same theme which is being organized in four West African countries namely, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Liberia.
The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in collaboration with the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative, of the Open Society Institute (LGI-OSI) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) organised a 5-day training workshop in Policy Engagement and Advocacy in Dakar, Senegal from 15 - 19 March, 2010.
The 5-day training aims to develop the capacity of civil society actors in West Africa to more effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders in an attempt to influence the policy-making processes of regional governments. By providing knowledge and skills in the production of evidence-based policy papers and in the planning of policy advocacy campaigns, the training seeks to provide the tool to help CSOs to hold governments accountable and also to push for their own agendas. The training is expected to contribute towards enhancing the role of civil society as an indispensable partner in the promotion of good governance, democracy,peacebuilding and participatory development processes.
The 5-day training which held from 4 - 8 March, 2010 sought to develop the capacity of civil society actors in Liberia to more effectively engage all policy stakeholders in an attempt to influence the policy-making processes of regional governments. The training was organized to equip participants with the strategic insight, skills and resources relevant to design policy-relevant advocacy campaigns and communications tools that deliver a compelling policy position and so, achieve desired policy objectives.
With focus on strengthening Policy Advocacy Initiatives in West Africa, the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WASCI) organized a Policy Engagement & Advocacy Training workshop that will build capacity and enhancing policy advocacy practices amongst civil society actors in the sub-region. This was done in collaboration with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI-OSI). A total of thirty (30) participants drawn from NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, Womens’ groups and Youth Networks were present at the five (5) day event held February 22-26, 2010.

The five days training held from March 26 to 30,2010 convened nineteen (19) participants drawn from Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea.
